FACTS Nursery
Helping Children of Rhode Island with HIV
In 1989, the FACTS Nursery was started to meet the needs of infants and children who were infected with the HIV virus or had AIDS. In recent years, protocols which drastically reduce HIV transmission to the fetus and medication advances which keep infected children healthy have reduced the number of children needing placement due to complications from HIV.

What we do
Upon a child's admission to the Nursery, the Nursery Director compiles a holistic case assessment in collaboration with the Medical Team to decide the best course of treatment for the child. Individuation of direct care among children is a central characteristic of promoting change and healing at the Nursery.
The daily routine at the Nursery is structured to allow time for each of these special needs to be addressed in a predictable environment.
The Nursery identifies and meets the needs of the children in our care while locating and training the next caregiver. Our ultimate goal is always that children will leave the Nursery and go to a permanent placement where they can grow and be nurtured.
The Nursery works with parents as well as children. The Nursery provides unique and comprehensive services to children and their families including on-site visitation (1-30 hours per week), parent mentoring and education, and case management. |
