AIDS Care Ocean State is seeking a confident and motivated individual to join our Board of Directors. Board Members play an integral role in keeping the agency up to date on policies and procedures, but also provide input for fundraising efforts, programs and services with a sense of humor and true dedication to serving the community.

Our ideal candidate is a person who is willing to contribute his or her personal talents, expertise and knowledge for the advancement and overall success of the organization. Must be open-minded and search for new opportunities that support the vision and mission of ACOS. Candidate should be enthusiastic and responsible as well as capable of dispensing advise and offer support to fellow members of the organization.

For full job requirements please contact Stephen Hartley.

Our Donation Center is an outlet for our clients to shop at no cost to fulfill their basic needs and that of their families. The agency provides a diverse range of items for the variety of programs and clients we serve including, but not limited to: clothing, shoes, furniture, personal care and other everyday items.

Volunteers perform various tasks to support the Donation Center such as assisting our clients in finding the items they are looking for, sorting items and making sure we stay organized! The ability to carry a few boxes up and down stairs is the only labor required.

The Donation Center is open Monday through Wednesday, 9am-1pm and Friday, 9am-1pm. The Donation Center is closed on Thursdays. Anyone who is available during these times would be greatly appreciated to keep our Donation Center organized and well-stocked!

You can also support the Donation Center by hosting a Drive in your neighborhood and community! The donation center is always in need of: baby items, toys, any age, personal care items, household items, new or gently used clothing, new or gently used furniture. Hosting a Drive in your area is a great way to involve your friends, family, neighbors and coworkers in a great cause. Please contact us if you would like assistance in organizing a Donation Drive!

Help us while the weather is good! If you enjoy being out in the sunshine we would appreciate your help! AIDS Care Ocean State offers supportive and assisted living facilities designed to offer our clients a family atmosphere while providing essential care to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Rigorous medication regiments and various obstacles with health can make outdoor work and garden maintenance difficult for our clients.

Garden & Yard Volunteers support our clients by offering a helping hand with mowing, weeding, raking and planting flowers and plants. You needn't be a garden guru but hopefully you enjoy working outdoors in a fun and friendly environment.

Volunteers can make this opportunity as flexible as your schedule allows, whether it's once a week or once a month, we greatly appreciate your help!

Bingo Book Assembly

AIDS Care Ocean State hosts Gay Bingo from September to May each year. It is our largest monthly fundraiser, with over 500 people attending each bingo. We are in need of a large group of volunteers to assist our Bingo Manager in assembling the bingo books that are distributed each month. The time commitment is one day, to be determined between the group and our Bingo Manager. Week, week night, and weekends are available. Volunteers will assemble the bingo books at our office. We are looking for a minimum of 5 volunteers for this opportunity.

Monthly Bingo Volunteers

Interested in joining our team of dedicated Bingo Volunteers? Every month our Bingo Volunteers help out by setting up and decorating the Bingo Hall, recruiting teams of Bingo players, and selling Bingo Special Games during the evening. We seek energetic, dedicated and reliable individuals to join the team and all of the fun!

Our street outreach team goes out into the community and gives out safe sex kits, HIV testing information, toiletries, RIPTix, and referrals for additional resources to the at-risk population.
Street outreach provides the community with information on how to stay healthy, protect themselves, and protect others.

If you're not afraid to stand out, then become a Street Outreach volunteer! Our Outreach workers are easily identified by the bright yellow backpacks they each wear.

If you have a great attitude, energy and most importantly, streetwise then come join us!

Safe Sex Kits

We distribute safe sex kits at health fairs, events, and at our Prevention Office. The kits contain safe sex materials and HIV testing information. Safe sex kits can be assembled at our office, at your home, school, business or organization. The time commitment is a minimum of one hour and can be arranged according to your schedule.

AIDS Care Ocean State is looking for HIV+ individuals who are interested in joining our Speaker’s Bureau. ACOS Speakers provide prevention and education information to a variety of groups in Rhode Island and Massachusetts by sharing their stories and speaking publicly about HIV/AIDS. If you would like to learn more and get involved OR if you would like the Speaker’s Bureau to come to your school, college or support group please contact Stephen Hartley.

Special Events

AIDS Care Ocean State hosts numerous major fundraisers throughout the year that support our programs and services such as ArtBeat, Adopt-A-Family, Swing Into Spring and King of Queens. We need volunteers for all stages of planning whether it is to sell tickets, help decorate, welcome guests, be a resource and help with all the little details that make our events amazing and exciting!

ACOS prides itself as an organization that consistently develops and maintains successful and entertaining events. Volunteering at an event is a great way to have fun and support the work we do!  We welcome individuals and groups as well as one-time volunteers.
